See the title? That is me being calm.
The carpets were cleaned on the 13th of this month. When they were done (and the carpet was still wet) they looked nice and clean. But they looked dirty again after they dried. So I called them to see about getting the front room redone. The appointment was for 9:00 and it is now 9:56. Usually, on Wednesdays, I don’t have anything going on but today have approximately eleventy billion things I need to take care of. I sit here waiting instead.
I used BidMyCleaning to find the maid service that came out a couple of weeks ago and the carpet cleaning service. Both things were done by the same cleaning company. It was $110 to get two living room carpets cleaned. I went back to the BidMyCleaning site to see what it would be to have one room done and it said $35 by the same people but that their minimum fee is $110.
On the invoice that the cleaning service sent for today’s carpet cleaning it says they are charging me a “special price” of $55 since it’s a redo. I think they should only charge me $35. I would use them again to clean the house but not for the carpet. Next time I have the carpet done, I’ll use a place that will come out and redo them for free if they aren’t clean the first time. It wouldn’t have bugged me if the initial price was more but for some reason, it bugs me that I’m paying to have them redone.
There were 2 living areas cleaned and the back one (not the main one) isn’t spotless but I’m not paying full freaking price to get both areas redone.
Okay. It is 10:05 and they are here. Sweety and I already moved all of the furniture out of the living room so they won’t have to take time to do that.

I can’t believe they made you PAY for a redo!! I wouldn’t use them again for anything unless I was getting one hell of a deal on the housecleaning! But I’m stubborn like that!

To be honest, even though they did a great job cleaning the house, I won’t use them again because I’m so put off by the carpet cleaning. I kind of thought they should have offered a free redo but I’m too chicken to complain.

I agree with CJ
Since when do they charge for Redos? How do they expect to keep customers that way!

The person I spoke with at the place mentioned that I’m farther out than they usually go for cleanings. They are probably trying to keep me from being a repeat customer!
The carpet WAS super dirty though. It probably isn’t their fault that it wouldn’t come clean with one session. I dunno.

I don’t think you should have had to pay for a redo either!
Of course, the guys are use are really good, they have a truck mounted system (which, I’ve been told is the best way to go, whatever) and they comb the carpet too… BUT!!!!!
They are so self-righteous about it. Like they had to give us lessons on how to vacuum and told us to tell our son not to take hot chocolate or hot coffee into his room because if it spilled it would stain the carpet and is almost impossible to get out, blah blah. They shut up when I told them that my son didn’t do that to his floor that it was the teenager who resided in the room prior to my son moving into it.
It’s carpets for Christ’s sake, not freaking religion! DAMN.
Shit. Sorry for the rant.
OM! OM! OM!

They are gone now and the carpet looks better. Yay! Of course, it’s not freaking pristine but it’s old so I didn’t expect that. I just didn’t want it to have dirty patches. Before we cleaned it, it was all dirty. Dirty or clean. I like shit EVEN.
Oh, hell no. They tried to give you a cleaning and a parenting lesson?
These people didn’t talk to me. Then again, I hid in the bedroom the whole time.
You know, your OM! OM! OM! sounds kind of panicked.

Yeah… I’m intense about my Oms. You should have heard me almost hyperventilating while I was saying it.

You have Angry Oms. It doesn’t take as many of them to get the job done.

You are soooo much nicer than me! You live so far out – is the lamest excuse I’ve ever heard. Sorry for their luck…they took the job initially – and to maintain a good reputation – they back their work. I’m not ranting here….just saying…….I’m a bitch sometimes.

If I had arranged the appointment through them instead of another service, I’d be more bitchy. This is what I get for blindly getting a carpet cleaner.

Too bad you are too chicken to complain because they deserve a good ass-chewing!

See, I’m such a wuss that I’m glad they didn’t tell me it would be another $110 to come back out.

We are working on no carpets. Sweety put down wood laminate stuff for about 1/2 the house. Once this carpet is done for, I don’t know if we’ll put carpet back down.

Well…That is—as they say—Highway Robbery! You shouldn’t have to pay ANYTHING ic they dudn’t do a perfect job the first time round..or, if you have to pay something–which I think is totally wrong–it absolutely should be the minimum amount….!
It really is a lesson in how important comminication us before hand….AND, getting the agrred upon details “in writing”….I would be very upset.

Yeah, the next time I get them done, I’m definitely going to be more picky about who does them. But they are drying now and looking so much better! I wouldn’t be ashamed to have company now!

Paying for a redo when they didn’t get it right the first time. Um, no. Wait, let me think about that for another second. … OH HELL NO! They’re a carpet cleaning company. Not a “carpet, well, we’ll try, but there are no guarantees” company. If they saw that they couldn’t get it completely clean the first time, they should have said so up front, and asked if you wanted them to do it at all if they couldn’t guarantee their work. That’s crap.
A friend of mine told me once, when I ranted about something like this on my blog, that if you use the name of the company along with “sucks” in your title, they might make it right. It worked for her twice with Comcast.

Yeah, I really wish they’d have looked at it and told me they couldn’t do it as the type of cleaning I’d paid for. I’d have rather paid more upfront and had it done all in one session instead of wasting two of my days off doing it!

A few quick items to note:
The company KNEW where you lived when you called to schedule the service. The base terms should have been up front, including ‘additional fees for extended travel’.
Truck mounted hot water extraction is the way to go when cleaning carpet. They may cost a bit more, but they’re worth it. Also? “Capture” cleans pretty much anything out of carpet. It’s manufactured/endorsed by major carpet manufacturers. As a result, it comes highly recommended.
You can buy it at most home improvement stores.

I’m totally going to make sure the next company uses truck mounted systems. My Basset Houndy floors demand it.
I’ll look for Capture. Just in case Tiny Dog pops a squat somewhere.

So many companies these days have completely forgotten about customer service. It’s a lot cheaper to keep a current customer than it is to find a new one. What they did is borderline unethical. To offer a cheap price all the while knowing that the customer is probably going to require a redo which you’re going to charge them for.

And the thing is, if the original price had been $165, I wouldn’t have batted an eyelash. I just didn’t like killing another day while it was redone.
