Today I volunteered at the Book Fair at the boys’ school.
I heard a lady list all of her ailments (hysterectomy, hernia, gall bladder removal, aching knees…the list goes on!) to every adult that walked through the door. I was ready to poke my eardrums out.
Do you know what I had ready for her every time she told me a sickness snippet? A Tiny Dog tale. Because I know that she had to be as interested in my motherfucking dog as I was in her numerous surgeries.
It was the longest three hours of my life.

I hate people like that. For serious. Do I care if you’ve had two sets of fake teeth and four bowel obstruction surgies? I DO NOT.

I mean, if you’re my friend – I want to hear about things when they are happening. But if I’ve just met you I don’t need your whole medical history!

I know right. Like, am I your new family physician? NO.

I’ve always got a TMI-type story or two to tell that will pretty much end a conversation if necessary. And, if that fails, I can usually think of a (polite) question that will do the trick. One that doesn’t quite make them feel stupid; but gets them thinking.

Does this kind of thing happen regularly if you go out in public often? This further makes my case for staying at home as much as possible!

If it had been someone who was old, it might not have bugged me so much. I have a soft spot for older folks. Like people with wrinkles. This chick was my age and just would not shut up!
Well, for you – I give a shit and would happily listen to you talk about whatever ails you. I know you :)
