Twenty More Toes!

Sweety and I decided around 1 o’clock today that we needed to get out of the house to avoid becoming one with the couch. We had no destination. Just needed to get out. We go find some lunch and afterwards he asks me where I’d like to go.

To the kill shelter!

He has never agreed to go before when I asked. Today he did. We weren’t looking for a new pet. I just wanted an excuse to cry.

This was the first little guy we laid eyes on.

Oliver

He’s about 5 years old and still acts like a puppy. He’ll fetch a tennis ball and put it down at your feet when you tell him to drop it! He’s housebroken! And, most importantly, Tiny Dog did NOT explode into a ball of doggy fury when she met him. All three of the dogs have done the butt-sniff thing and there hasn’t been any biting yet. They all squirmed around together on the carpet for some petting and have all retreated to their own corners to sleep.

I am so pleased.

He has a blister or boil on his toe and it looks like he’d had some sort of skin problem in the past because the fur on his backside is patchy. We will get those things squared away when I take him to our vet on Wednesday.

And I have to say a huge, “Thank you!” to Sweety. I have a lot of pull around here but he could have vetoed Oliver. Sweety is also going to brave the pet store tomorrow to get the cat, Girl, vaccinated for rabies. Um, we’re really bad pet owners because she has never been vaccinated. When she started hanging around years ago, Sweety trapped her and had her spayed but other than that we never fooled with her because she was too antsy.

In order to have Oliver, we have to get her vaccinated. So Sweety is going to wrangle her into a cage tomorrow and stand in line at a shot clinic to get her taken care of. Hopefully, she will not unleash her claws of fury and slash everyone to death. If she doesn’t kill innocent people tomorrow, I promise to be a responsible pet owner and get her vaccinated on a regular basis.

  2. He’s beautiful!!! And with all those pissy girls you need a boy around to kiss your ass a bit. I’m so happy for you!!!! As soon as I can peel Maggie off the wii I’m going to have her come look at your new baby.

We almost bought her a puppy for her birthday. They were a mix of chihuahua and miniature dobie (doby?) sooooooo cute. But, the thought of having to housebreak, etc. was just a bit too overwhelming for me. I need a little peace and quiet before I delve into the next big endeavor.

When he came out of his cage at the pound and walked right to a tree to pee – that’s when I figured he was trained and it was just one more point in his favor! We’d have gotten him even if he wasn’t housebroken but I was really, really dreading that part.

A chi/dobie mix? That dog would have personality and a half. I can so picture Maggie leading one around with a spiked collar on. A friend of mine had a mini-doberman and it had no idea that it was only 4 pounds. It acted just like a big dog.

LOL I thought of YOUR Oliver after I’d picked his name. I wanted to name him Wilson but Sweety has a boss by that name so it was vetoed.

  5. Just because I have to throw it out there — a lot of people don’t vaccinate their pets either. Something about the ingredients being just as horrible as the vaccinations that get forced on children. I know that in order to have Oliver you have to get the cat vaccinated – but it might be a good idea to research it – just because. :)

    peace…

I’m really not a fan of pet vaccinations especially if they are indoor pets because Tiny Dog is so allergic to the rabies vaccine. She has weeks of wheezing attacks after getting it. But I have to keep them up in order to get their teeth cleaned (which is a must!). I’m going to ask this year if she can get one for puppies – maybe less strong or something.

  6. Sweety really does a lot of nice things for you. Three dogs and a cat is a lot for one household. Does he like animals too does he just do it for you?

BTW: Are you going to give Oliver a nickname like Tiny or Stinky?

    reply

    Chickie said:

He just does it for me. He likes animals but not the same way that I do. Though, Oliver does have him doing nice things that he’s never done for the girls – like putting a stepstool next to the couch so he can climb up and down easily.

I don’t know if he’ll get a nickname. If he did, it would probably be something like BoyDog. That’s how I ask Sweety how he’s doing!

That is so awesome! He is an adorable puppy! My bf and I just got a dachshund/min pin whom we also named Oliver (although he goes by “Ollie” mostly).

What a coincidence. You have a dachshund named Fred .

Mike–you are an ass. Fred is not a dachshund.

He’s got short little feet and a long beak. He has to be a dachshund.

    Chickie said:

Yeah, I think his main name will end up being “Ollie”. When I was a kid, we had an awesome dog named Oliver so I thought it was a good name to recycle. :)

  11. Are you sure that’s not 20 more fingers? Lol.

Congrats on the new edition to your house.

I used to have a friend whose dog would sing to me on the phone. It was cute!

Heh, I do often refer to their little paws as “hands”. Tiny Dog is just a thumb away from completely running the show.

All three of the dogs got to barking today and I thought I’d go deaf before I could get them quiet!

LOL Girl? I mentioned her awhile back and everyone was surprised to see we had a cat. She moved in about 16 years ago and lives in the garage. She used to be very unfriendly but since I’ve been feeding her wet cat food the past few months she has really been nice!

Yeah, I don’t like Stinky getting older. I look at her and tell myself that her hair has always been white.
